MICHAEL HEACOCK ARCHITECTS

Ecological Architecture | Green Interiors + LEED Consulting

Homes + Cabins

In our residential work we enjoy a blend of rustic and modern detailing using natural and reclaimed materials expressed honestly. Light plays a key role in our designs, where you will find subtle reflections and beautiful gradations. We have extensive experience with alternative construction materials, such as rammed earth and pise, straw bale, SIPs, Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF), and compressed earth block. If we use wood, it is FSC certified or reclaimed. Finishes are durable, natural, and non-toxic. Check out our work in publications, such as Good Green Kitchens by Jennifer Roberts.

Pioneer Cabin
Whether urban or rural in setting, we contextualize our projects to enhance the built environment and grace the landscape. A recent residential remodel, for example, conserved all of the surrounding award winning gardens within 18" of the foundation, including building a new deck and trellis around existing mature grape vines.

Rammed Earth

Our work with talented builders allows for innovation and invention during the creative process. Early in his career, Michael  worked with David Wilson and Chris Parlette at Wilson Associates, designing and building amazing projects such as the Lake Oswego and Strathmoor homes, distinguished by a rural and agrarian character. Working in collaboration with Sim Van der Ryn for several years, Michael's designs grew organically both in expression and materials. More recent independent work, such as the Keohane Residence and Pioneer Cabin, demonstrate dramatic spatial quality with an economy of area and materials. Our passion is elegant, organic and environmentally responsive design.
