Golden Gate Park Pavilion
San Francisco's Friends of Recreation and Parks began this project as one of 10 pilot projects for San Francisco's Green Building Initiative. The facility is designed for public use and environmental education. Features include a vegitated roof, which captures and filters rainwater while providing habitat for birds and insects. The pioneering structural design utilizes Rastra Insulated Concrete Formwork, which is composed of 100% recycled material. Working with the structual engineer, Stephen DeJesse, as well as the contractor and concrete supplier, the project team was able to produce a 50% fly ash concrete mix. We look forward to seeing the project move forward once the City completes their fundraising efforts.
Michael Heacock participated on this project as project manager for Van der Ryn Architects.
