Here is our favorite large scale fuel cell project:
Waste = Energy
Gills Onions in Oxnard is the largest onion producer in the US. Back in 2006 Gills installed a bio-digester that takes their significant organic processing waste, producing methane that powers fuel cells. The centerpiece of Gills' Sustainability efforts is the installation and operation of the Advanced Energy Recovery System (AERS), which converts 100% of their onion waste into ultra-clean, virtually emissions-free electricity. AERS produces 100% of the baseload electricity required at their Oxnard facility and allowed them to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by nearly 2,000 tons of CO2 per year.
Email Michael if you would like to discuss whether a fuel cell may be appropriate for your combined heat & power project.
